I remember when the night brought me joy. When dark hours covered my foolish grin and hid our appetite from the world. Gluttons of each others scent, we fed until belly full, smacking and licking fingers wiping juice from the others mouth, then swiftly surrendering to slumber. I remember when the night was fun.
I remember when the night satisfied me like spoken word poetry or night time Nina singing, music playing, listening alone. those quiet dark nights when God answers you back and sleep rocks you in its arms till dawn.
These memories like lyrics to my lament are the only offering night leaves for me now. Bitter coffee taste on my tongue. Dark, stale and left in a cold cup that no longer hold the taste of your sweet lips. Memories that no longer beckon me to you.
